THE NATASHA PROJECT

The Natasha Project is an international network of theater groups and artists from different countries: Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands and Yugoslavia as the founding members.

The idea for the project started in ODIN Teatret, Denmark, during the seminars conducted by the actor Torgeir Wethal, from 1990-94. This was a common base on a high professional level and in 1992 actors and directors from the seminars decided to create a network with the aim to continue their artistic exchange and develop their work in contemporary theater.

The Natasha Project
encourages understanding and respect between the artist and an interest in each other's work. It is also a place for the meeting of differences and a way of learning from other experiences through understanding the creative process of the others.

The ongoing project of the network is:

ART SAVES LIFE
Meetings/ Workshops/ Festivals/ Collaboration

The sentence "ART SAVES LIFE" originally is graffiti written on some wall in New York. We found it provocative and powerful, expressing the ultimate potentiality of the art it self.

The Natasha Project's members continuously reinvestigate the meaning of the phrase "Art Saves Life" which is the motto of the network, posing the questions: In which way art can save the life, and which kind of art can give the meaning to the life?

The meetings of The Natasha Project take different forms (festival, exchange, workshop, collaboration) following the needs and research of the members and according to the possibilities of the group or institution, which is hosting the meeting.

As a result of the meeting in Sweden '95 the performance based on "The Epic of Gilgamesh" was made. The performance was made for open air with the participation of thirteen actors from different European countries.

Members of Natasha Project collaborated in the performance "Landscape of Memories" produced by INFANT Festival in Novi Sad, 2000.
