The work demonstrations aim to
uncover parts of the creative process in Dah Theatre and to introduce
young artists and audiences to some techniques of contemporary
theatre.
The work on a performance in a theatre
laboratory such as DAH Theatre lasts for months. During that period
the actors continue to work on developing their skills and create
materials from which a role or a character needed for a certain
performance is gradually formed. Often these two processes are
entwined and work which started with the aim of developing certain
theatrical training leads to work on a specific character, and
vice versa - from materials that are created to build a specific
character, a technique or skill can appear which is then developed
outside of a performance. Often these demonstrations
have a form and effect on the audience similar to the performance
itself.
FLAME ON THE BOTTOM OF THE
SEA
This work-in-process shows the creative process
of actress Maja Mitic as she discovers different ways in which cold
and technical work leads to the formation of live characters. Maja
has been with DAH Theatre from the beginning, and this work that
premiered in 1998 continues to evolve.

"Wrapped
in a veil of research, within the art to which I belong, my
path is often crossed with strong, warm, terrifying and deep
feelings, colors, thoughts and memories. These meetings give
me faith in what I do because without them I could not meet
myself. For me the work in DAH Theatre is like the deep vastness
of the sea on whose bed I am trying to keep a flame which
raises me above my life."
Maja Mitic
The actress demonstrates different
ways of gradually developing live characters from cold technical
work.

SINGING BODY, DANCING VOICE
A work-in-process demonstration of actress
Sanja Krsmanovic Tasic, in which she explains her path as the actress-shaman
of DAH Theatre.
In DAH Theatre Sanja discovers a place
for artistic, spiritual and professional development and challenge,
a place to express her opinions and beliefs about the surrounding
reality, history and life itself. She shows excerpts from all the
DAH Theatre's performances since 1993. The presentation premiered
in 2001, at the 10 year anniversary of the theatre.

"Martha
Graham said in her autobiography: "The body never lies".
So true, that it hurts. As a child I was completely spellbound
when I saw the first Indian Bharatnatyam dancer. Even though
I started taking ballet lessons when I was four, and continued
through all my life, I felt something was missing. I loved
dancing, but I felt I could express more. This is what I have
found in my theater - DAH, movement with meaning."
